Letter from the President

Chester County Engineer's focus for 2010 has been education, education and education.  With the state of Pennsylvania enacting Act 25 of 2010, all licensed engineers must now maintain their professional knowledge through a variety of continuing education requirements.  Understanding that your time and money are precious in this current market, CCE has put a premium on delivering high quality, low cost programming throughout the year.

Our capstone education event was held in November -- our first, bi-annual Continuing Education Conference.  Members were able to affordably obtain up to six Professional Development Hours (PDHs) in a single day.  A full room of attendees were instructed on topics ranging from modeling Nitrates in groundwater to making proper turn lane traffic calculations.  However, the event could not have been successful without our instructors.  Several CCE members volunteered their time and expertise to help their colleagues complete the continuing education program.

The Continuing Education Conference may have concluded our educational program for 2010, but it certainly was not the only opportunity members had to educate themselves.  CCE has focused on bringing in key local agency representatives as presenters in 2010.  Not only do most of these meetings satisfy continuing education requirements, but CCE offers most of them for free to members.  Over the last twelve months we have been visited by the township officials at our Municipal Roundtable; Chester County Health Department at our Well Presentation; PennDOT at our ADA & Drainage Policy Presentation; and, Chester County Conservation District at our Chapter 102 Presentation.  Additionally, we heard presentations on Soil Evaluation, the Continuing Education Law, and a Housing Market Forecast.

Members of CCE have had a very wide range of educational opportunities in 2010.  And, we hope to keep offering such value to our members into the next year.  If you would like to teach a class, please contact us.

Strategies and goals:

  • Strength in numbers
  • Strength in recognition of names and faces
  • Help out the community

Sharing wisdom, experiences and teaching younger members to create a stronger future for civil engineering/land development fields.
